Papa Rocco's makes the BEST pizza I have had anywhere. I was shocked and oh so pleasantly surprised! We came here based on the recommendation of a local who overheard my group discussing where to get oysters. He said Papa Rocco's has the best oysters. After sampling the raw oysters everywhere we went this week, it's true - Papa Rocco's was the clear winner. But the pizza. THE PIZZA. It was incredible. We got one with shrimp, bacon, and tomatoes and it was killer. Back in Nashville now, I'm devastated knowing that nothing here will satisfy my craving for that delicious dish. Don't miss it!

Wow, I don't know how my experience could be so different than others on Yelp, but here goes. I really wanted to like this local place with a sign that says "warm beer, and lousy pizza" as it shows fun humor. We did take out: pizza and wings. Nothing fancy. The pizza: mushrooms and green pepper was average at best. In fact, it was definitely below average. $13.50 large. Not too expensive, but only if the pizza was any good. The chain Pizza Hut across the street has better, less expensive pizza. 3 adults and 2 kids couldn't finish the large because none of the adults liked it. The wings: INEDIBLE! I have never had wings this bad. In fact, nothing has come close to being this bad. They offer the wings in 3 levels of fried: regular, medium, and crunchy. We got regular which basically means fried once. There was more fat on these wings than I've seen. It must be the cheapest chicken available. The seasoning and sauce wasn't any good either. It's really not hard to make a decent sauce for wings. Not a whole lot flavor. They give ranch with it, but you shouldn't have to use ranch to flavor wings. We ordered 25. We got through 6 and threw them out. Maybe the atmosphere is fun. Maybe hang out here, but don't eat here.

One of the best dives in the country! I can't go to Gulf Shores without eating here multiple times. Great oysters! Warm beer and lousy pizza!

Oh my god, what a disappointment. Loud, cluttered, disorganized. We were seated next to a drunk that insisted on hollering along with the band (can't call it singing without committing a sin). Note to all - get in and out BEFORE any band starts up, or bring your own hearing protection, ok? The pizza was marginal, really.

Food is seriously good. We ordered the artichoke sun dried tomato pizza (minus tomato and add shrimp). It was delicious. It has pesto pasta and great cheese. Pizza was made with fresh ingredients and hot!! We loved it. We also ordered a half dozen Cajun oysters and a half dozen Parmesan oysters. The oysters were big and yummy. They were cooked to nearly perfection. The Cajun wasn't really spicy at all but still had great flavor. The kids got a grilled cheese and spaghetti. The portions were huge. The grilled cheese was large and came on nice bread. The spaghetti is extra for meatballs but worth it. The sauce wasn't very chunky with vegetables but the noodles and meatballs were delicious. The kids loved both. We really enjoyed the food. This is one of the best pizza and baked oyster places that we have eaten out in good shores. Also this place is open late. They didn't close until mid night Sunday night. The place is a bit small and sort of dated but the food and service are worth a visit. The bathrooms are small and not handicapped or diaper changing friendly. There is little parking and a small deck that you can wait on. You may take your alcoholic drink in the deck. The place is no smoking and no vaping except on the outer deck. We will be back and highly recommend.

Have been wanting to eat hear for some time. So after kicking some ass or should I say getting my ass kicked at mini gold we headed down to get a bite to eat. I pulled in to a packed parking lot but there's a guy directing traffic so smoothhhhhh there was a 25 min wait but they said we could sit at the bar, best spot in the house if ya ask me. I had the spaghetti and meat balls plenty of sauce an huge meat balls all home made very good! Michelle had the veggie pizza amazingggggg the beer was ICE cold and being that we were at the bar they kept em coming! If your in this neck o the woods stop in for a bite to eat. There logo is a lie "lousy pizza and warm beer" I think they just say that to keep the tourist out hahahahahahaha

I'm honestly not a fan of pizza most of the time. Working at two separate pizza establishments as a teen made me burnt out for awhile. Went here while on vacation and had a great visit. We were sat very quickly for it being the dinner rush but we were only a party of two versus many larger parties. This place is no frills and serve a lot on styrofoam, which was fine with me. We had the chicken club pizza and it was amazing. I hate most Alfredo/white sauce on pizzas but this was very good and went well with the spinach and chicken. My boyfriend said it was still great when reheated two days later. Service was good and prices were pretty reasonable. We got two waters, one beer (on happy hour), a souvenir coozie (came in handy on the beach next day!), and a large speciality pizza cost us a little over $20. By far our cheapest dinner on vacation. I will definitely return if in town!

  • Miranda R.

Doesn't the sign out front say "warm beer, mediocre pizza"? Hilarious! It's pretty good pizza and tasted pretty dang good on the beach the next day too! I can't attest to the beer... The hostess was perfectly pleasant and took our to go order. There was a little band playing some late night tunes. It was a quick, pleasant transaction. Better to eat local than some poopoo Papa John's.

Walked here after a long great day at the beach. Inside is nothing special. Lots of memorabilia and odds and ends. Sat in a booth. Sort of surprised no draft beer. Got a few bottled beers. Ordered a dozen wings(baked) and small chicken club pizza. Server was attentive but not bothersome. Wings came out first and were very good. Pizza was yummy and hot. Together the two were the perfect amount for us. Good experience overall.

You want oysters? You want BIG oysters? You want gooooooooood oysters? Then eat here! Like, NOW! They are this hole in the wall place you would never expect to have these massive delicious oysters! The service was awesome! Tiny tables but who cares...did I mention the massive oysters? And they are super cheap compared to other bigger places with tiny oysters charging twice as much. Also, the pizzas are killer...the hamburger is the best my niece said she has ever eaten in her 19 years. And she is a huge hamburger lover. I had the baked ravioli and had 3 left to take home. This is a HUGE portion of huge ravioli's and tons of cheese! But back to the Oysters....GET THEM IN Y0 BELLY! buy 2 dozen...sooo dang good.

  • Christie P.

Ordered take out this year, and they still did an amazing job! The two pizzas, two orders of garlic bread, and the dozen Parmesan garlic oysters were delicious! The place was packed tight, so I'm glad we did take out. Love this place!!!

  • Adam G.

Delicious. We ordered the small deluxe pizza and cheese bread. The sauce that came with the bread was full of flavor and the perfect thickness for the bread to dip. The pizza crust was the exact texture you want a pizza to have. I love when pizza toppings are in small pieces and this place nailed it. Outstanding quick service. Highly recommend a trip to papa's. Enjoy!

I had the oysters and sausage sandwich. Oysters were the best, I'd pass on the sausage sandwich next time. No meat just marinara. Daughter had the pizza and said it was the best she ever had.

Their stuffed mushrooms were delicious. Waitress got my order wrong but was nice. Everything else was great. The girl playing music was a really amazing singer too.

5-20-15 had supper here. We had shrimp pizza with 2 add ons. It was PERFECT! Crust-great shrimp-great flavor-great.... also had lasagna and it was good. Others there said the raw oysters are the best in town.....prices are good.

  • Nick B.

Great pizza! Many options to choose from and the spinach Alfredo pizza was great. Better than the pizza places in my home state of Kentucky. I gave this place a five star review because that is what it deserves.

  • Bo M.

Great pizza and oysters cooked any way you like them. Parking is a challenge as it is at most of the eating establishments in the Orange Beach/Gulf Shores area but it can be done and is well worth the effort...

  • Mad A.

Mmmkaaay? So this place is like.. really good. Wanna know why? Well I'm a gonna tell ya why. Because they are open on a Sunday night and even after 11 pm when you are worn out from fishing and you are tired and hungry and thirsty. And also when you are done smelling the gasoline fumes from kicking your kid's butt at go-cart racing after he has been smack talking you all day like he thinks he can out drive you. Sometimes you gotta make a point with these kids that a 200 lb. plus man stuffed into a go-cart with his knees up at his ears can drive as well half drunk as Billy Martin ever could. Or thought that he could. As I have said before, I very often eat at a place several times before I review them. I have been here before and I will come here again for the RAW oysters on the half shell. Got a dozen on the half shell and they were PERFECT. I only eat raw oysters next to the coast and Papa Rocco's has them. They also have other bar type food like burgers and such if that suits your fancy but I never had any of that here. Just the raw oysters for me, thanks. And did I mention that they were HUGE? And they were DELICIOUS. I think they are some of the best around for a great price in an unpretentious environment. Ya gotta love a place that does not take themselves too seriously and they don't here. They don't really care what you think because they have been here for thirty years. Do you hear me??!! Thirty goldurned years so they have stood the test of time! Long before Yelp came along they have been here and will likely be here after Yelp has gone by the wayside unless a hurricane gets em' but they have already withstood that too. They don't even care about my review which makes it even better! The boy got pizza and I got my raw oysters and bragging rights for the grand prix of go-cart racing. He was happy with the pizza and I was happy with the oysters and my canned beer. Coors Light. Yep. Shaddap! They don't have all this fancy shmancy draft girly-man beer of fruity tuttie flavors so your are just gonna have to deal with it. It's in the can and it's cold. Shaddapp and drink your beer while you listen to the blues man play his guitar and belt out his sorrowful tunes of a hard life gone by. This place is also a local watering hole and there ain't no trouble here. Unless you want some. The waitresses look like they can handle themselves so you might as well watch yourself. They have plenty of big screen TV's too if that is your thang. And they have a good picture on them too. If you are inclined to bitch about everything then you probably won't like it here, so don't come if you like to bitch. Nobody here cares anyways. There is bitching aplenty in the world as it is without finding something to bitch about here. It's a bit noisy and rowdy in this place so probably nobody would even hear you if you commenced to bitchin' anyways. I am YOUR Yelpbuddy, Madman and you can ALWAYS trust my reviews! I don't play around. I ain't in this crap for the glory of it. Besides, all the glory if any at all in Yelpyville is imaginary anyways. Believe it or not! I don't give a flip either way. And you shouldn't either if you got even half a lick of sense! Which leads me to my main point which was... ummmm.. hell I don't even remember myself what the point was other than this is a good place consistently and they have been in business a long damned time. They have great raw oysters here too. The best around! Reasonable prices too! So if you don't like that then go to Orange Beach and pay double for the same thing with all the hoity toitys up that direction. Suit yourself. I don't care either way. In fact, if you are so inclined it would be my preference that you just go do that. Ain't nobody got time for high fallutin' snobs that think they know somethin'. I sure as hell don't. Hope you don't either.

I consider Papa Rocco's to be THE place to go when I'm in Gulf Shores. My trip is simply not complete until I visit there. My most recent trip included the TKO cocktail with souvenir cup, a dozen raw oysters, and the budget buster pizza. If there were six stars in here I'd ask for seven -- it was that good!!! The bartender knows what he's doing. I've never had a bad drink. It looks like a dive, but it's well worth the chance!!!

  • L B.

Had a coupon for a free pizza along with the purchase of another. Our server was great and our transaction went smoothly (the reason for 2 Stars)...we talked with another server, short woman wearing a cap, about my daughter-in-law and myself surprising our husbands with a pizza for dinner, however, she went on and on about creating some sort of concoction geared toward husbands and their wives, yada, yada, yada...making reference to who knows what! I felt offended by what she was trying to insinuate in her comment...with that said...their pizzas are very good!

  • Kelley H.

Awesome pizza! Got two price buster pizzas and a pepp. Average size, loaded with toppings. Light on the red sauce, which of what we like. Also had signpost a garlic butter flavor, which was really different and really delicious!! Crust was chewy and tasted homemade. Definitely recommend!

  • Darby M.

4.5! Great pizza and service! The sauce on the pizza is bomb! Kind of a long wait and limited dining space which is the only thing preventing a full fledged 5. Will definitely come back!

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. On our last day of vacation, myself and a group of 11 went in for a late lunch (after 2pm). Upon entering, we are approached by our server who could not care less about customer service. We are informed that they had a kitchen guy quit and it will take about an hour and a half. NO PROBLEM! Well, 3 hours later we are approached by a different server with our tickets.....we never got our food!!!!! A few of us had side salads and 2 orders of cheese bread and we're expected to pay for our "apps" after waiting for 3 hours for them to inform us that they don't even have our ticket in the kitchen. Needless to say, the bartender/manager tried to guilt trip our group because he "guess he would eat the cost" of our whole $20 worth of food we consumed.... I will never be back. VERY disappointed, and ruined our last beach day by wasting our time for rudeness.

The margarita was very strong, more like lime-flavored tequila. But the Delux pizza was amazing. So cheesy, and the crust was perfect. Also, the Hot Shuck baked oysters were delicious. They even have fresh horseradish for the oysters. Service wasn't the best, but the food was definitely worth going back for. Happy hour is 11a-7p, and they have $2.50 beers and $3.50 well cocktails.

Totally awesome place. People and staff are friendly and treat you like friends. Pizza is excellent. The music Monday through Thursday is awesome. Just a great local hangout.

They messed up pretty bad, but saved their review with how they made up for it. The food was pretty good. I had the oyster rockafellor, which had a weird sweet taste from what must have been Tabasco sauce that they added before baking it. However, it was still enjoyable. Now here's where they messed up. They apparently messed up our pizza order and after a long wait (maybe 35 mins after the appetizers were served) they brought out a mangled pizza that appeared to have the toppings added after it was cooked. The waitress apologized and only brought this pizza out while they cooked another free replacement pizza. We got a 10% discount and that free pizza. I think that made up for things, but I never got a true taste of a properly cooked pizza from them as the second pizza hit the refrigerator where it still sits. My final thought is that it's probably a good mom and pops place that happened to have this hiccup during my family's visit. I would try again on my next visit.

My family came here on a Sunday for lunch. I would definitely call this a dive bar, wouldn't take my kids on a weekend night. We ordered a pepperoni pizza and the kids ordered from the kids menu. The food was served quickly and it came out hot. It was delicious! Even my kids ate most of their food, which doesn't happen often. Service was exceptional, we were checked on frequently and got refills as soon as our cups got low. Would definitely eat here again.

We had the veggie pizza and Caesar salad!!! All was great!! The noise level is high... Prepare yourself!!!

The pizza is definitely better than average and the atmosphere was pleasant. We went in to watch the Lions game and enjoyed game time drink specials and a nacho special. For a dinner time app we had fresh raw oysters which were a great value at around $10/doz. The Alfredo and seafood pizza was alright but we felt that the traditional red sauce pizza was very good. The service was attentive and polite.

Very wet and soggy pizza... Looked like the green peppers came out of a can. Seems like the place is probably ideal if you want someplace with a little bit of everything on the menu. But if you're looking for good pizza, there are plenty of better options in the area. That being said, staff was very friendly, and the atmosphere very casual.

Great pizza and pasta. We picked it up and brought it home the other night and they forgot our nachos. Tried to call back a couple of times and they wouldn't answer. It was still tasty! I had the baked ravioli.

AWFUL FOOD AND SERVICE. This is definitely a local joint where the locals think this is the best place around. I almost thought this place was going to be amazing, considering I was getting locals advice. Go else where.... DO NOT RECOMMEND. By far the WORST PIZZA EVER. Salty sauce, salty pizza .... REALLY?

The seasons over, no snow birds, no weather, no crowds, right? Wrong at Papa Rocco's their's a crowd. But, the service is phenomenal and our server was like speed racer. Very happy with her. Me and my friends got the gamut. The two of us got the Rocky's Knockout Hamburger, and my third buddy got the Steak Sandwich. That being said, they advertise the "Who's Your Daddy Burger" I wanted it, it sounded huge, and really wanted the mushroom and cheese burger. However, I ignored my eyes and listened to my stomach this time. The burgers were good, close to very good. They were seasoned, and tasty, What diminished them to good status, I rate everything based on the Keg Burger, or The Blue Dot. I know it's unfair for me to do so, but the Keg, you risk lung cancer, from second, third and fourth hand smoke. Papa Rocco's furthermore is environmentally way more pleasing. So yeah, I'd come back for the burger, heck I'd comeback for the "Who's Your Daddy" burger, and I never saw one. The Steak Sandwich, that didn't fair so well. Yes, it was a huge hunk of rib eye steak, plunked down on two pieces of hoagie rolls. That's it, no imagination there. The steak was fatty, grissily and difficult to eat. My buddy said it was ehhh, and he wouldn't get it again, as he saw us inhale our burgers. There are a number of items I'd like to get here, so I will become I think a regular. I like the family and locals environment.

Great pizza with friendly staff. Get their early and beat the crowd. Close to the public beach just past shrimp basket on the left side of hwy 59 if your heading north.

Home of warm beer and lousy pizza? Well the pizza is not really all that good here. I guess it is because you got Michigan people trying to master something they are not known for? The place needs a good updating, which I believe it got one awhile ago from a post on Facebook. It has been since 2011 since I have been there. Believe it or not their subs in my opinion are better than the pizza, for what you get and pay that is. It gets really loud when it fills up or when they have live music, not a fan of that.

What a great atmosphere ! It was a little crowded but we were seated immediately. We had the spinach dip for an appetizer it was great ! We ordered Alfredo /spinach pizza and raw oysters which were wonderful and fresh. We also ordered the lasagna and shrimp fettuccine Alfredo which both were some of the best I have ever eaten. This is a local dive and suggest you go there to support the local economy. I almost forgot these is a nice gentleman in the parking lot to help you get a spot and to keep all the non customers from parking there. This was great!!

The food is great but the service is terrible. If you are not in a hurry and want some great pizza, go there. This is a very popular spot for locals - especially the blue hairs. The spinach artichoke dip is a fantastic appetizer but steer clear of the wings. They taste like the ones you buy at Sam's and microwave. I am guessing they are now that I think about it. The place is a dive so don't expect anything nice.

Loved the Pizza here! Was nice to get good pizza at a good price and support local business. The place was a bit outdated but still gave a comfortable easy feeling. We had a pepperoni pizza and Parmesan oysters and both were awesome. Favorite part was the beer came out in ice cold cans. A tall slender man with long hair waited on us and handled a large section of the dining area, he made drinks, waited and cleaned tables all at once. Super great service from him! Definitely will be coming back!!

The pizza was decent. I've definitely had better. The service was absolutely awful. The workers, especially the bartender were very very rude. We came very close to walking out and going across the road to pizza hut. We felt very unwelcomed. We will never go back, I would choose pizza Hut over them on the next visit.

Great Pizza, cold beer, service was fast even while the place was packed. Great options for everyone including the kids, live music at night. When you want something besides seafood, here you go

Small, local feeling place with live music. We had the 10" shrimp pizza with tomato and bacon and it was FANTASTIC. Perfect size for two. Only negative was that it was pretty loud and the plates we used were styrofoam.

Gotta stop here just for the historic value, its been here a long time and looks like it. Had a supreme pizza... secret is out, this place serves papa john's pizza! Funny thing is there's a papa johns across the street, they must order from there. Same crust, toppings, sauce, and cheese. .. but costs more. Good atmosphere and live music. Service was excellent.

Great pizza joint that gave us a nice break from all of the fried seafood places. We got cheese bread as an appetizer, a bacon cheeseburger pizza (that was the fave) a pepperoni pizza and shrimp Alfredo. All was good, no complaints and no wait time. We got there at 530 and got right in. By no means fancy but that's ok when they serve good food;)

Love this place. Pizza was great, super fun atmosphere, locals playing some music live-ish. Loved the whole experience.

The food was really good. The seafood pasta and pizza were both super yummy. The server was good. It's a small place and was very loud but that didn't turn us away and I'm glad it didn't.

Good pizza, not great, but OK. Service was fast and friendly. Great happy hour pricing on beer. Live music, well...better than nothing.

Bummer... We were told this place was awesome. Quite disappointed in what we experienced. The placed reeked of bleach! the food was cheap in taste and expensive in price. We ordered the nachos for $6.50 and found out that they are the cheap movie theater nachos with fake cheese. Mediocre pizza and the chicken Alfredo was very bland, soggy old noodles and the chicken tasted like it was from the can. Check please....moving on!

Great fast Italian food. Kid size portions are big. Prices are a little high but not bad.

Open late!!!!!! Thank god for this place as no one else serves food after about 10 in the area. I had the burger and she had some garlic bread the first night. Garlic bread was nothing special, marinara could have been better. Burger was likely from frozen pre-made patty, but it sure was good. Either they picked a good frozen burger or they know how to season it to make it seem flame grilled. There is a chance it is made in house, but I doubt it. Staff was excellent, bartender was very friendly and on the ball. Second time there were got the combo platter and a pizza. To our surprise the stuffed mushroom were huge and were covered in some pretty good sauce. Pizza was actually the best we had on the trip. Good crust and good sauce, some places in the area should have the pizza here to see what they are doing wrong. Wings and skins were bar quality but not bad. TKO was worth skipping, maybe come up with a better signature drink. After ordering one, I had to make myself drink it all before getting something good...just a beer please. I feel the locals hang out here and probably the service industry come here to eat after work since no one else is open. Good vibe with good people all around make it a nice place to stop in and have a few drinks.

Ok so here's the thing. I don't believe this is a late night family joint. It's a dive bar...for adults. Clear as day. Yes, Gulf Shores is a family place, just don't bring your 3 year old here on a Saturday night. Ok? I got all this from going there for lunch! Anyhoo...MP and I decided to have a late lunch and were craving oysters and since the sign on this place says "Oyster Bar"...we figured it would be a good bet. So when we arrive he asks the bartender "What do you have on tap?" Server goes "Jager"...MP said "what else?" Server said "water". Awesome. So I ordered one of their rum drinks (that came with a souvenir cup...and it was way too early for Jager) and MP got a beer. We also ordered a dozen raw oysters on the half shell and the shrimp pizza with tomatoes and pepper rings. SO EXCITED!! I'm being totally serious when I say that the oysters were the bomb. So fresh and I was literally talking about them the rest of the vacation. Obviously it depends on the batch you get, but this was a deeeeelish batch!! The pizza was yummy and flavorful, loved the crust! Our server was great, so sweet and when she picked up our empty oyster platter she goes "more?" We almost said yes. Overall, this place is awesome. Delicious food, delicious drinks and it looks like they may do karaoke. I mean, karaoke and jager on tap? This will definitely my next venture when I come back to GS with oysters....

Went tonight for the first time, and was pleasantly surprised. As someone who basically grew up in Gulf Shores, we wanted to try something different. This place is basically a hole in the wall, lots of snowbirds were eating when we went. Got an appetizer of Oysters and they were pretty awesome. Buddy had a shrimp pizza, and I had a meatball sub. Full bar, and really good service. I'll be back.

It was open late so we stopped to grab something to eat. It was pretty neat and the food was good!! My boyfriend really enjoyed his burger and my spaghetti was pretty basic. The meatballs really made it taste better. The service was great and it was over all a good place to eat.

Ordered to go. It was ready close to their stated time. We has a "best deal" and a sundried tomato artichoke one . Both were good. We live in an area with lots of pizza places and this would be a solid 3 there. Good but not awesome. Eating on site might have changed that to 4. The main negatives were that it is really salty. And I like salty. Big pizzas , good prices though. Almost a 4

It took awhile to get a table for two. The place was packed. Parking was terrible. It was a very cramped parking lot. I had the combo platter which was delicious and my sister got the pizza which she said was good. Service was good. Rustic, whole in the wall atmosphere. We came early so we could hear the band but they started 20 minutes late and we were ready to go by that point.

Seems to be a favorite with locals. Limited parking and seating. We had pizza eaten that was excellent. On a separate trip got pizza to go and it was not nearly as good. The pizza seemed to be overcooked and old. Would definitely give it another try.

I like this place because its a decent price for a meal, but the oysters that they serve aren't just raw. They also make different variations of oysters, that are baked, and cheesy! In addition, they have this seafood pizza that at first may make you go, huh? But....it was so good, that we even ate here on our way out of Gulf Shores. The first night we went, it was pretty packed, but not packed enough that we had to wait very long. It's a very casual place, and it's been there for quite some time! We started off with a dozen raw oysters (my favorite), and then also got 1/2 dozen of the Cajun spiced and spinach artichoke oysters. All of it was amazing. What i liked the most about the raw oysters is that they serve it with freshly chopped/minced horseradish. That really made it! We also ended up getting 2 small pizzas, a spinach one and then the seafood. All of the ingredients were good, and i found that I actually enjoy broccoli on my pizza! The only seafood that is on the seafood pizza are scallops and shrimp, but the sauce they use is like a fetuccini sauce instead of tomato and it is definitely scrumptious! The other pizza was really good as well. You can tell that the dough they use is like no other (that i've found) and the service is decent. I would definitely come here again when I visit.

We have been coming to Orange Beach and Gulf Shores for a while and first went to Papa Rocco's several years ago. My wife and I were out Ft. Morgan way and decided to stop by again. We ordered a beer and an appetizer of Potato skins. They were awesome. Several toppings to choose from. All good. Seeing one of their famous Pizzas go by, we decided we needed one to go. We took it back to the condo and ate most of it watching football. It was delicious. Service was good and we liked the "bar" atmosphere. This was a Sunday and after 4pm the place filled up. We looked on the menu and saw that they had an all you can eat spaghetti plate for $5.25. We saw one go by and it looked delicious. We'll go back after 4 pm on a Tues. or Sunday.

Good food. We ordered pizza, a couple different pasta dishes and a sandwich and had enough food for another meal the next day. Place is small and not fancy (styrofoam plates) but the food and prices more than made up for it. Will be going back again

  • Jessica B.

I'm kind of surprised this place got so many crappy reviews -- drive by any time of day and the parking lot will be at least partially (if not entirely) full. Obviously they're doing something right, people. And it's a dive restaurant at it's best -- they're catch phrase IS, after all, "The home of warm beer and lousy pizza" (neither of which is true, but I suppose it's catchy...whatever). I bartended here for a winter and it's a great spot to be in the "off season." The dinner specials ($11 prime rib, $6 AYCE spaghetti) can't really be beat and are tasty (and homemade, I might add). If you're here in the winter, enjoy dining with the blue-hairs (gotta love those Snow Birds!). It definitely offers a family dining experience, followed by a true bar atmosphere the later the hours tick. The oysters are as fresh as you can possibly get them (keep in mind the sizes of the oysters you get are simply how they come, straight from Apalachicola! depending on the time of year, they'll be larger or smaller) -- shucked right then and there for you at the bar (this was my least favorite aspect of bartending, lemme tell ya). They are also a complete steal compared to other places ($7.50 for a dozen?! you can't find that anywhere!). The pizza is DELICIOUS and again, made from scratch. This is one of the only places around that doesn't have a fryer on site -- so don't look like a deer in headlights if you try to order your kid chicken tenders and fries...you just won't find it here. But if you're in the mood for pizza and/or oysters, it's the best spot to get both, fresh and tasty. They usually have live music and it definitely turns into a late night crowd. There's a big locals following (including servers from other restaurants that come to drink when they get off work) so you'll be sure to find an interesting mix of people when you stop in.

The place is a local dive, its far from fine dinning but the service, food and music was all good. I will keep coming back here the price was reasonable for orange beach.

If I could give Papa Roccos NO stars I would! The bar staff was incredibly rude.. it cost 35$ for a large pizza with old chicken on it and a small pizza with frozen shrimp on it!! WtF !!!! come on guys we live by the gulf of Mexico you cant use fresh shrimp?!?! I'm paying 17$ for a SMALL pizza..The least you could do is use fresh gulf shrimp. Disgraceful!! My Moms lived here for over 30 yrs and hasn't eaten there and ill be sure to tell her and all her friends to keep it that way. If you want to find out about this place ghost ahead but you'll be wishing you saved your money. People have no customer service skills anymore.

Horrible experience. Ordered 3 large 14 inch pizzas for carry out and they made 3 small 10 inch. How can anyone screw up an order that badly? No offers to help compensate for their mistake.

This is one of my long-time favorite dives. Years ago, they used to have a pizza burger on their menu, and it was fantastic. Today, if you order a pizza burger, they just kind of look at you funny. If you explain it to them, they'll still make it, but you never know if it's the same thing you're expecting. A minor inconvenience, however. Overall, this place epitomizes small, local, tasty dive. I've seen some really funny and bad singing here, some good music, some great oysters, and plenty of sports on their TV's. Being a fan of traveling to different sporting venues to see just about any sport event, I've always liked the fact that the owner here has pics in random places of his beloved team... the Michigan Wolverines. I admire a guy who is passionate and sticks to his love, even if he's now located in "enemy" territory. I've been told that he tries to go to one game a year in Ann Arbor, and that he regularly takes an employee with him. I think that's great, and the The Big House is definitely on my must-see stadium list, so I hope to go there myself one day. Overall, the food here is good, it definitely has a local feel, and it's one of my favorite places to go.

Good tasting pizza, cold beer, a refreshing rum punch house drink. Recommend for a quick bite while watching the game. Nice, low key getaway for visitors. Can get tired of the uber tourist joints.

We really enjoyed Papa Rocco's - the pizza was great! We each had an individual (10") so we could get what we wanted but it was too much for one person. Very tasty and good chewy crust. We will definitely be back when we are in Gulf Shores.

Stopping here for a dozen Oysters Rocky is a Gulf Shores tradition for us. They even told me the secret ingredient, but I still can't make them this good. Yes, it's sometimes crowded, noisy, and the service can be mixed. I wouldn't bring young kids here at night, but I've brought plenty of friends here over the years and they've all had a good time. It's just a relaxed good times kind of place.

    (5)
  • Katy G.

As if the wait for anyone to walk over to us to take our name wasn't bad enough, the staff was horribly rude and unfriendly. As if rude service isn't bad enough, after the 40 minute or so wait it took to get our pizza, the server then told me that my pizza was made incorrectly and asked if I wanted to wait for a new one to be made. Really?! NO! I just waited 45 minutes for this one! The pizza was pretty decent but it isn't worth the headache of the ridiculously small parking lot of the rude manners of the staff.

It's a long time family tradition of our that we spend a week together every year in Gulf Shores. Its also a tradition that we have a pizza night at Papa Roco's. This year we enjoyed it so much we went twice! The prices are just right, it seems to be a locals joint, the service is friendly, and the dive atmosphere is great. All the pizza is delicious, the chicken wings are to die for, and I had THE BEST ruben sandwich I've ever eaten there. Great place to watch the game too! We will continue to visit Papa's every year faithfully!

Love this place!! Some of the best oysters you can get! If you've never had Royal Red Shrimp try them, just have someone else pull off the heads if you don't like them looking at you! Have I mentioned the Pizza? GREAT! Staff is friendly, live music I believe every night! We come to Gulf Shores every year, and Papa's is a Mandatory stop!

We love this place. The AYCE spaghetti is a great deal. We haven't been disappointed by anything here. Kids love the cheese pizza. Their marinara sauce is very good. Very casual place with full service bar. Wait staff is friendly and cool. When we lived in the area, we ate here at least twice a month. They are on restaurant.com now, so added bonus. My only complaint is that the live music can get a bit loud, but considering the size and layout of Papa Rocco's, the high volume may be unavoidable.

  • Greg E.

Stopped in to watch the playoff games and because we had a restaurant.com coupon. Service was fabulous! We had wings and nachos. The wings tasted like the frozen Tyson wings we buy at Sam's Club. The nachos with chili were good, but got soggy very quickly. We had the meatball sandwich, which I wasn't aware was an open face until it arrived. Very tasty and a nice size. We also ordered the patty melt, which was Good. We were happy they had Yuengling beer. All in all, ok experience. Typical bar food, nothing special, but nothing bad either.

I have to write a review because most the reviews are not good and this place was awesome! This is a local hangout with live music 7 nights a week. It is kind of an unassuming hole in the wall with great food. This place does not own a fryer, which is pretty rare in GS. My only complaint is that there is no draft beer. The food: We had the cajun baked oysters and they were outstanding! A little kick and a crusty cheese topping. We also ordered the shrimp pizza and it was quite tasty. They really do a good job with their cheese here.

BEWARE!!! Pizza was good but a little too strong with the spices. For what you get I think this place is over priced and cramped. The waitress was nice enough but you better USE CASH HERE!!! My mother-in-law used a card she very rarely uses here, and only here on our trip, and within a few days afterward she got a call from the bank about suspicious charges. Apparently someone skimmed her information here and they tried to order $1700.00 worth of air conditioning equipment. BEWARE!!!

  • Tricia A.

Excellent pizza. The crust was a cross between hand tossed and thin. Very yummy. The waitress was good keeping up with out drinks but not friendly. If you need warm and fuzzy not the place for you. Our food came out fast and the bill was 89.00 for 8 people and 4 adults were drinking beer. Try it.

Decided to try Papa Rocco's due to their 4 star yelp. Big disappointment. The pizza flavor was okay, but the sauce and crust were pretty bland; nothing special. The lasagna and Manicotti looked delicious, but tasted like frozen food out of a box. Even Stouffer's is better. Also, both dishes came with French bread. How do you go wrong with French bread. It tasted like stale bread that had been reheated. It was completely inedible. The service was good and the waitress was nice. The music was cool but the place was really dirty. There was food all over the floor that hadn't been cleaned up. The one star is for the friendly waitress. Sadly, that's as good as it gets. The next day I met a cab driver at the Shrimp Basket, which was delicious, who told me that Papa Rocco's is all hype and that all their food is frozen and reheated for customers. It totally tastes that way. Not worth it at all for the price!

    (1)
  • Marilee M.

Pizza was good and the beer was inexpensive. They do not have any tap beers which was disappointing. The waitress was a little snotty at first but when she forgot my salad and I politely asked that she just make sure it not appear on the bill she made a point of being extra nice and attentive. We left before the music started since my parents are almost 80 and don't like loud noise!

    (3)
  • Jeryn B.

Can't believe this is getting so many bad reviews! I honestly can't count how many times I've been here...yes there's only bottled beer...& the service isn't great...but neither of those things have never bothered me! On any given day I'd go here for a shrimp & bacon pizza w/ a side of oysters over ANY 5 star restaurant! Spaghetti is also outstanding! Great local restaurant...& yes I consider myself a local!

    (5)
  • William C.

The atmosphere is nice but the pizza is just average. The crust is a plain white dough without much flavor and the sauce tastes like an ordinary tomato sauce. The pizza is on par with other national chain pizza despite being a local joint.

    (3)
  • Rachel W.

The service was terrible and slow. All the beer is bottled. That's right, a bar with nothing on tap. The food was overcooked, over-salted, and very expensive. The only reason this place gets any stars is because the live music was decent. Otherwise, stay *away* from this place. Eating cold cereal at home is better than eating here.

We loved this place!! It is small, but great food and service! Enjoyed many different kinds of oysters and then ordered more! We had pizza and cheese bread. Kids enjoyed their own pizza and everyone had a ball! The place was packed when we left. Don't miss out on this experience!

  • Shannon V.

went there recently..when we first came in and sat outselves it took awhile for anyone to acknowledge that we can in..once she noticed she can to get our drinks..they have alot of TVs in there to watch games..the pizza was pretty good..we enjoyed it..good price..the floors were messy and our table was dirty when we sat down but when we were leaving they started to vacuum up the place..my parents went there also and got the pizza and oysters and really liked everything..we would go back for sure next time around

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations.
